Spring 2026 Upper Pitt River Fishing Report

The valley is currently undergoing freshet, as the residual snow is melting away from the hillsides. The river is at a moderate height with twenty feet of visibility, “Steely Green”. We’re expecting the river conditions to stay consistent through the next week because of the forecast scheduling for high teens, low twenties °C, & some light precipitation.

Spring Fishing Has Arrived at the Pitt River Lodge

It’s our favourite time of year, when our largest Bull Trout are showing up, making their journey to the headwaters of the river! Big, predatory, anadromous Char. These fish behave similarly to Steelhead & Chinook, gladly pursuing swung & stripped intruders or streamers. These Char are true opportunists, and are generally less fussy than Steelhead & Chinook. When we have higher concentrations of these fish in runs, they often compete against each other for your presentation. In these scenarios, these Char will gladly take dry flies!

While targeting our anadromous Char in the spring, our most common bycatch is Steelhead or Coastal Cutthroat.

Our Trout species within the upper Pitt River watershed are currently gorging themselves on the high abundance of salmon fry. Which are currently working their way down to Pitt Lake.

Because of the past three years without any logging in the valley, we’ve been noticing more than usual activity from black-tailed deer on the roads, which is an encouraging sign!
